After talking about clay mask and some hydrating mask last week, I realized that I should mention some mask that I have used for special circumstances in a separate category and some sleep masks that are worth mention. I began to buy and try sleep mask several years ago with not many good things to say. I was really disappointed because the early versions were not giving me the great results I was expecting according to the claims.
I am a fan of Orveda and in love with their overnight mask which I found in 2018. They recently launched a new mask that I have not tried it yet, but it seems to be a deep cleaning product with a clay base.
Some of the mask that I am including here are what I consider exfoliant mask. These are products that their base is some sort of acid resulting in a clearer skin revealing the skin’s natural radiance. These can be AHA (Alpha-Hydroxy Acids) like Lactic Acid, Glycolic Acid, Mandelic Acid, Citric Acid among others. These are water soluble and are used to diminish age signs and/or sun damage. BHA (Beta Hydroxy Acids are oil soluble. BHA are great for oily or acne prone skin because is able to go deeper in the pore and exfoliate the dead skin cells inside the pore. The best example of BHA acids is Salicylic Acid. This is widely used for oily skin products at any price point.
Sleeping Masks and Special Masks that I Love
Orveda
Glow Activator, Overnight Skin Recovery Masque
Orveda is a luxurious vegan beauty line. This mask is an exceptional sleeping mask and the one responsible to convert me to favor sleeping mask. The prior versions that I tried before did not convince me. I just did not notice a better or brighter complexion the next morning. I see that my skin looks and feel better than the night before. The philosophy of these beauty products intrigues me however, I do not have a store that carries the line nearby to try more products. I have to rely in traveling to the UK or to New York.
Orveda was created by Sue Y Nabi who was CEO of Lancôme and have over twenty-five years of experience in the beauty industry. Ms. Nabi is one of 2018 British Vogue’s Top 25 Women Shaping the World.
The line philosophy is one of working with the skin. Through biotechnology, this line works with and not against skin’s natural microflora and process. It uses bacteria (good), yeast and enzymes to find a combination that provides that glow from within.
Over ninety eight percent of the active ingredients are natural or obtained using green technologies. Among the active ingredients used are Bio-fermented Kombucha Black Tea for comprehensive rejuvenation on skin tone and glow, Alpha-glucan Oligosaccharide as a natural prebiotic, Marine Enzymes for the healing of the skin’s natural moisture barrier, Botanical Glycerin, Seaweed Extract to energize the skin, Bamboo Water and two Hyaluronic Acids.
Among the results that are claimed and that I have noticed is, it really boosts the skin glow and minimize signs of fatigue. It claims that fight skin’s natural overnight water loss. I feel my skin hydrated after a night of sleep with this mask. The skin feels soft and moisturized to the tact.
Apply a layer on cleansed skin with the flat brush that is included in the packaging and go to sleep with it. You do not have to rinse the next day or remove it. I actually apply any essence I am actually using in my morning routine and follow with my basic daytime routine.
Dr. Barbara Sturm
Face Mask
This mask was recommended to me by the esthetician at Blue Mercury in Southlake TX. I have mentioned in prior post how much I love the Hyaluronic Serum from this line therefore I gave it a shot after the recommendation. It was recommended to me as a sleeping mask, but it is not a sleeping mask and the instructions indicates that you should rinse it. It is a deep hydrating face mask. It contains the active ingredient, Purslane to activates the skin’s own antioxidant system and protect from free radicals., Kaolin and Chamomile to calm the skin and Aloe Vera to supply moisture. It is important to know what the ingredients of any product are you use. In this case I know people who are allergic to Aloe, therefore this mask will not work for them.
I used the mask, after a deep cleansing mask but not as a sleeping mask. I need something a little bit more hydrating at night. It is recommended to use it two to three times a week, applying a thick layer on the face and neck. I spread it to the décolleté area. Leave on the skin around ten to fifteen minutes and rinse it off with lukewarm water or you can leave it until is dry and rubbing it in motions and follows with your normal day time or nighttime routine.
Chantecaille
Jasmine and Lily Healing Mask
This is another of my favorite mask but for a different reason: it is very calming for the skin. Specially after taking a lot of sun, a peeling, a strong facial or any other reaction when the is irritated. Always consult a dermatologist first if you have a strong reaction. This mask and the La Mer Concentrate is one of the most healing products I have used and my go to when my skin is irritated. It is a product that has been in the market for a while and I have used it overnight specially right after being at the beach. It has been recommended for jet-lagged skin and wind-chapped skin. It has a Rosewater Base which is used as aromatherapy. It contains Vitamin B5, Lily Bulb to moisturize the skin, Macadamia Oil, Primrose Oil to nourish the skin, Jasmine, Narcissus, Mimosa Flower Waxes. The consistency is very soft, and the effect is cooling to the skin to extent that you feel it melts on the skin. It was created to protect from over-exposure to elements.
Apply to cleansed skin and spread it to neck and décolleté. Leave it between ten to twenty minutes until it is absorbed by the skin and remove it with a cloth (I use a muslin cloth) or a sponge with lukewarm water. Use it as needed or twice a week.
Ren
Glycol Lactic Radiance Renewal Mask
This mask is an exfoliant products with AHA acids from natural sources. It brightens, firms the skin. Makes the pores look smaller in ten minutes. It also claims to lighten hyperpigmentation. It contains glycolic acid from pineapple to exfoliates the skin and lactic acid from passion fruit to refine the skin texture making it smoother. It also contains Papain to exfoliate the outer layer of skin to promote cells turnover.
I have noted that reduce the size of the pores and at the same time it feels that clean my skin deeply. With this mask, my face looks a little red immediately after I rinse it off but, it calms down later. I do prefer to follow it with a quick hydrating mask.
Apply a thick layer of the mask on clean skin. Spread all over your face, neck and décolleté. Avoid the eye area. Let the mask dry for approximately ten minutes. Be aware that you will feel some tingling, but it should not bad. If it is bad, just remove it immediately. After ten minutes, remove it with lukewarm water. It is recommended to use it once a week.
Radial
Vit C Brightening Mask.
I received a travel size of this mask this past holiday season. I like that it contains five percent of vitamin c ad a blend of ten percent of AHA. I like about this mask is that the effect does not seem abrasive but cooling thanks to its gel like texture.
It claims that boost luminosity and even skin tone thanks to their percent of Vitamin C. It retexturize and promotes renewal of skin cells due to glycolic and lactic acid It also contains Pomegranate Extract with antiaging and antioxidant properties to protect the skin.
I like that you only apply a thin layer to clean skin. I experienced an immediate effect of decongestion and it minimize the pore size. Leave it between fifteen to twenty minutes and rinse with lukewarm water. It is recommended to use once or twice per week. I have used when I feel that the skin feels a little dry or as part of a weekly facial.
Every time that I browse the internet there is a new mask in the market in addition to mask to certain areas of our face like the chin and eyes. I find more mask in my bathroom to talk about. This conversation of mask is getting longer and longer. I cannot wait to share about all the sheet mask. I actually have visited some of my favorite stores to find some old brands that I think are actually fantastic to talk about and I hope to grab some on my trip to New York. What are your favorite masks? What are your skin concerns? Any cult lines favorite. Let me know your thoughts in the comment’s session.
